In a rapidly evolving professional landscape, the key to future-proofing your organization lies in embracing a strategic yet practical skills-centric approach to workforce development. Join this session for an engaging conversation that delves into the practical aspects of shifting to a skills-centric approach within your organization. During this session, ATD Forum member WM will share their journey of implementing a skills-based approach in its organization and how it is evolving to attract, retain, and develop their workforce. The session will dive deep into building integrated experiences while leveraging technology as an enabler and using data as a guiding principle.

  • Learn how to take a skills approach by using practical tools and processes.
  • Benchmark ways other organizations are embracing a skills-based approach to develop employees and increase internal mobility and growth.

Jennifer North has more than 25 years of experience in the field of learning and development. She has had various roles that include classroom and virtual facilitation, instructional design, project management, and change management and managed WM’s training centers designed for new drivers and technicians. Currently, Jennifer is responsible for the learning delivery strategy for various training programs. She holds a bachelor of science in business management from Northern Illinois University and a master of business administration and a master of science in management and organizational behavior from Benedictine University. She earned her PMP in 2012 and is certified in Prosci’s change management. She is also an adjunct professor teaching project management for the Elmhurst University graduate program.

Yasmin Gutierrez has served in various learning and leadership development roles for more than 15 years. She is currently responsible for leading the technology and evaluation and metrics strategies for the learning function at WM. In addition, she oversees the centralized learning creative team responsible for developing high-end learning deliverables such as videos, infographics, and interactive web-based solutions. She has a master’s degree in management with a concentration in strategic management and innovation from Harvard University—Extension School and is certified in Prosci’s change management. She currently serves as a member of the ATD Forum Advisory Group.
