Fundamentals of Negotiation Skills Workshop

Course Info

When people think of negotiation, they often picture salary talks or haggling over the price of a car. But negotiation is more than that. It’s a process through which people come together to address challenges, generate solutions, and secure agreements. For talent development professionals, negotiation skills can help you to align stakeholder expectations, secure resources, advocate for learners, and facilitate constructive dialogue.

This workshop blends ATD’s industry expertise with the academic rigor of the University of Pennsylvania Graduate School of Education (Penn GSE), helping you build negotiation skills you can immediately apply in your day-to-day work as a talent development professional.

Develop Negotiation Skills With ATD and Penn GSE

Offered jointly by ATD and Penn GSE, this workshop combines research and real-world practice, inviting you to examine both the technical and interpersonal dimensions of negotiation. During collaborative, live online sessions you’ll learn how to prepare for and lead important conversations, understand what drives people’s decisions, and find common ground when interests differ. You’ll practice listening deeply, asking effective questions, and communicating your goals clearly.

Through simulations, role-plays, and guided reflection, you’ll leave the workshop with practical tools and strategies you can use to approach difficult discussions with clarity, empathy, and confidence.
