Languages of Career Development

Speaker: Julie Winkle Giulioni

We’ve all heard of the 5 Love Languages… right? But how many career development languages do you know? If you’re like many, it’s just one: Promotions!

But in most organizations, the time-honored tradition of defining career development in terms of promotions, moves, and/or title changes is dying or altogether dead. Yet we continue to measure success against that artificial (and illusive) yardstick.

Promotions are actually just one of ‘languages’ of career development. During this session, you’ll be introduced to the other seven, which are always available and within your and your manager’s control. You’ll take a self-assessment to determine which are most interesting to you, and you’ll identify strategies to keep growing and thriving in meaningful ways right where you are.

Based upon the forthcoming ATD book by Julie Winkle Giulioni.

3-4 p.m.

Speaker: Rita Allen

Tell Your Story and Market Yourself

When we use the term “marketing”, most people think of products, services and commodities.  How about ourselves – marketing our talents, accomplishments and value – inside our organizations and outside within our profession, industry and community.  Are we comfortable talking about ourselves in this way?  More importantly, are we prepared to talk about ourselves in this way – packaging our talents and accomplishments – showcasing them, leveraging them and presenting our value internally within our organizations and externally within our chosen fields, industries & communities?

Do you know your story and are you prepared to share it with passion and purpose? Are you comfortable marketing your talents, accomplishments, and value, both live and virtually? Learn the 3 Ps marketing technique and empower yourself to identify, build, and enhance your personal brand. Lead your journey and own your career.

In this session, you will learn how to:  apply the 3 Ps marketing technique as a proven framework with tools and resources to gain on-going self-assessment and exploration processes to use well beyond the session.
